About
I am a 2nd year PhD student at University of Warwick interested in sociology of culture, popular music and contemporary Italy.
My doctoral research deals with the emergence of popular music journalism in Italy, and looks at the ways in which the music press has been created, sustained, and redefined as a field of cultural production. The social and symbolic boundaries of music journalism, and the strategies employed by journalists to legitimise both popular music and their profession, are some of the themes addressed by the project.
In 2009 I received an MA in Film and Television Studies (University of Bologna, Italy) presenting a thesis on the relationships between film and popular music. The dissertation analyses the representation of popular musicians in contemporary Hollywood biopictures, exploring the ways in which film narratives deal with cultural distinctions and implicit notions of popularity, maleness, whiteness.
Currently I am in Italy to finalise the collection of empirical data for my thesis. Besides, I am involved in a project of distance mentoring with Ritsumeikan University (Japan), in which I act as academic and language tutor for one of their MA students. I am also in the organising committee of the annual Seminar Series held at the Centre for the Study of Women and Gender (Warwick).
