Faculty Member, Law School
Professor of Legal Education
About
My primary areas of research involve lawyer's ethics, legal education and the legal profession, with a particular interest in matters of political and moral economy. I am also interested in civil justice and legal theory (especially complexity, systems theory and the phenomenology of law). I co-edit, with John Paterson (Aberdeen) the 'Law, Science and Society' book series published by Routledge-Cavendish, and, until 2008, was a founding editor of the journal 'Legal Ethics' (Hart Publishing).
I studied law as an undergraduate at Birmingham City University and have LLM (by research) and LLD degrees from the University of Warwick. I am currently Director of the Higher Education Academy's UK Centre for Legal Education and lecture and deliver workshops across the UK and internationally on matters of pedagogy and legal education policy. I welcome PhD students in any of my main areas of research, and am happy to discuss ideas and proposals at any stage of development.
