About
Before moving to the University of Warwick, UK in 2006 for his doctoral study, Hazem Azmy was based in his home country, Egypt, where he continues to maintain an internationally-oriented career as theatre and interdisciplinary humanities scholar, university teacher, professional translator, dramaturg, and frequent contributor to scholarly, trade, and popular publications. He is the author of the entire portfolio on Egypt in The Oxford Encyclopedia of Theatre and Performance, ed. Dennis Kennedy (Oxford University Press, 2003). He is also the Editor of The Experimental, the English-language daily of the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre (CIFET). He has been one of the driving forces behind the formation of a new Arabic Theatre Working Group at the International Federation for Theatre Research (IFTR/FIRT).He was recently appointed as member of the Executive Committee of the IFTR/FIRT as New Scholars' Representative (2008-10). Azmy's most recent publication is guest-editing (with Marvin Carlson) a special issue of Ecumenica titled Performing Islam/Muslim Realities ((Fall 2008)
