About

I am an early career researcher and tutor at the University of Warwick, studying female sexuality and the history of childbirth and midwifery in the eighteenth century.  I am tutor and convenor for The Romantic Period Novel, and also teach Romantic and Victorian Poetry and Communicating Science.  My PhD, 'Fuzzy Theory and Women Writers in the Late Eighteenth Century', examined the contradictory nature of women writers in several key eighteenth-century debates: the religious representation of women, the midwifery debate and the representation of Queen Elizabeth I. It employed the Fuzzy Theory and several contemporary literary theories to show that critics continue to use an outdated logic called 'The Law of the Excluded Middle', which traps women writers from this period in categories such as "radical" and "conservative", terms which are misleading.
